At Curls Poppin', we've always believed that representation matters — in the mirror, in the classroom, and on the toy shelf. That's why we are beyond excited to share a milestone that goes far beyond hair care: we created the first doll line ever produced by a hair product company, and the first HBCU doll line in history.

Where Beauty Meets Legacy

Curls Poppin' was born to celebrate natural hair in all its glory. But as we grew, we realized our mission was bigger than products — it was about culture, pride, and showing the next generation what's possible. So we asked ourselves: what if the dolls our children play with reflected not just their curls, but their highest aspirations?

The answer became something truly groundbreaking.

Firsts That Matter

When we set out to create this doll line, we weren't just filling a gap in the market — we were making history.

We are the first hair product company to ever create a doll line. No brand in our space has done this before. We're proud to bridge the world of beauty and the world of play in a way that feels authentic and intentional.

We are also the first to create an HBCU doll line. Historically Black Colleges and Universities have shaped generations of leaders, scholars, artists, and trailblazers. These institutions carry a legacy that deserves to be celebrated — and now, for the first time, that legacy lives in the hands of our children through play.

Representing Jackson State University & Virginia State University

We are thrilled to announce that our first HBCU dolls represent two iconic institutions:

🐯 Jackson State University — Jackson, Mississippi

Home of the Tigers, JSU has been a cornerstone of academic excellence and community empowerment since 1877. Our Jackson State doll celebrates JSU's bold blue and white spirit, honoring the generations of Jacksonian scholars who've changed the world.

🟢 Virginia State University — Ettrick, Virginia

Founded in 1882, VSU is one of the nation's oldest HBCUs and a powerhouse of STEM, arts, and leadership. Our Virginia State doll wears VSU's proud orange and blue, representing the Trojans' legacy of excellence.

Why This Matters

For too long, HBCU graduates and their children have had to imagine themselves in spaces that weren't designed with them in mind. With these dolls, a little girl can hold her college pride in her hands before she even steps foot on campus. A parent can gift their child not just a toy, but a dream.

We want every child who picks up a Curls Poppin' doll to see themselves — their curls, their culture, their future.

What's Next

This is only the beginning. We have more universities, more stories, and more history to celebrate. Our HBCU doll line is a love letter to Black excellence, and we intend to keep writing it.

Stay curled up with us — the best is yet to come.
